| The Kaikoura Star was established in 1880 and is published by The Marlborough Express. Kaikoura is world famous as a tourist town, attracting more than one million visitors per year to experience the whales, swim with the dolphins and enjoy the many adventure activities that this town has to offer. In a unique setting surrounded by rugged snow covered mountains, this little coastal township survived on dairying, and the bounty of the sea, "Kai" meaning food and "koura" crayfish. The Kaikoura Star is published each Wednesday, and is, we believe, the smallest paid weekly newspaper in New Zealand if not Australasia. Our audited circulation is 1735, and given that there are just 1404 households in the region (2006 census) you can see it achieves total market coverage without being a "freebie"! It demonstrates just how this little publication belongs to its community. |
