Taranaki
Newspapers is a wholly owned subsidiary of Fairfax Media. The
registered office
of Taranaki Newspapers is Taranaki
Newspapers was formed in
1962 following the amalgamation of The Daily News and the Taranaki
Herald. In
1966 joint production of the two newspapers commenced in the present
premises,
using a common processing and composing room, press department and
publishing
section. In February 1976 the company moved to cold type production and
four
years later installed an offset press and a Compugraphic production
system. At
that time the company was a part of NZ News Limited and the Taranaki
Herald
(founded 1852) was the oldest newspaper in In
1989 Taranaki Newspapers was
bought by INL. Regrettably, the Taranaki Herald ceased publication
because of
falling circulation and advertising volumes. Taranaki
Newspapers is a major
employer in Taranaki, employing 130 full-time staff. In addition 20
part-time
staff, and a further 350 paper deliverers and contractors are regularly
employed. The Taranaki Daily News boasts one of Today
